The Princess of Wales’ 2022 Engagement Count

2022 (168)

Here at Cambridges News, I’ve been keeping a tally for 3 years on the amount of engagements that appear in the Court Circular, the official record of The British Royal Family’s work, for The Prince and Princess of Wales.

I shared The Prince of Wales’ engagements a few days ago and if you want to examine his engagements, you can visit my article by clicking here.

You can visit “Engagement Count” main page by clicking here.

I should again emphasise that the engagement numbers should not be converted into a “league table” of individual royal performance. These numbers are mainly only for me to compare as the years go on and they are in no way a measure of all the work the royals do. Court Circular only shares a small part of the work of the Royals, but they actually do much more than that.

All engagements differ as to time and content and there is also the time taken in preparation, whether it be a visit, investiture or speech. Except for Christmas Day and Easter Day, the King never has a day off from the official red boxes that pursue him everywhere.

Since I only recorded the engagements of a few royals, I won’t be able to compare the Royals I recorded with the whole family. But, since I have the Princess of Wales’ engagement counts for 2019, 2020, 2021 and with this article 2022, I’ll be able to compare the Princess’ engagements to past years and try to give you as much data as I can. If you’re ready, let’s check out the engagement numbers!

Totals

Counting engagements in the Court Circular isn’t an exact science. As always, counting and categorizing engagement numbers is subjective and each person counts and categorizes them differently. Many bloggers keep count but everyone does it differently and their own way.

For 2022, I counted that The Princess of Wales undertook 168 engagements at home and abroad (Denmark, Belize, Jamaica, the Bahamas and the USA). She broke her own all-time record in 2022 and closed the year with a good number of engagement.

British Royal Family Engagement Numbers

As I said in the introduction, I also counted the Prince of Wales’ engagements through the year and I’m attaching the chart below so you can more easily compare their 2022 engagement numbers.

Counting and posting the royals’ engagements is a difficult job that requires long hours of work. So, unfortunately, I don’t have enough data to compare the engagement numbers of all royals.

The Princess of Wales’ Patronages Breakdown

The Princess of Wales did 65 total engagements on behalf of patronages in 2022. The Princess’ most visited patronage is always The Royal Foundation because all of her projects are run through it – like Centre for Early Childhood, Heads Together, 5 Big Questions on the Under 5s, supporting BBC Education’s ‘Tiny Happy People’ initiative, Mentally Healthy Schools etc. She did 49 engagements for The Royal Foundation (72% of her patronage engagements).

Alongside The Royal Foundation, The Princess’ most visited patronage was The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) with 3 engagements. In addition to all of these, Catherine did 2 engagements with Royal College of Obstetricians and (RCOG), Rugby Football Union, Rugby Football League and Maternal Mental Health Alliance UK.

Note: Some engagements (ex. Catherine’s engagement on 5, 9 and 10th July) were on behalf of two patronages, which is why the total from the table and the graph is higher than 65. While the engagements count for two different patronages, they still only count as one engagement for the total engagement count, hence the difference in total.

Conclusion

2022 was a year where many things changed for the British Royal Family and especially for King Charles, Queen Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

This year, I decided not to talk about the low engagement numbers of William and Catherine as in previous years because it’s obvious that repeating the same things every year doesn’t change anything. My views on this subject have been the same for years, and I’ve talked to many people about it, and there’re two things that those who disagree with me say: They work in the background and they have three children.

As you can read my thoughts in my posts about the engagement numbers of the past years, I don’t agree with this. Due to my personality, I’m very good with numbers and it makes more sense to me to use numbers rather than seeing verbal expressions and comparing people and their work with subjective expressions. So I counted engagements over the years and shared data in many categories.

Changes in the Royal Family didn’t affect the engagement numbers in the last months of 2022, but I’m still hopeful for 2023 engagement numbers. My personal life has been very full lately and I’m not counting the 2023 engagements and I have no idea when I will be posting about engagements again from now on. But if someone releases it by the end of the year, I hope to see big changes for William and Catherine.

A lot of my free time over the past few years has been spent counting and sharing engagements, and I feel like I’ve come to the end of a long journey. Or a very long break…

I’m aware that many people haven’t read my writing up to this point, and I know that long and detailed posts don’t attract attention. If you’ve read up to this point, thank you so much.

P.S.: Everything written here is my own opinion and if you want to share your thoughts with me you can reach me in the comments section or on social media.
