New Member of the Cambridge Family

The Cambridges reportedly have a new member of the family, another little pup is actually Lupo’s niece as she came from a litter bred by the Duchess of Cambridge’s brother James Middleton for the litter of puppies his dog, Lupo’s sister Luna, gave birth to in May, 2020!

George and Charlotte (Louis was probably too young to help) helped pick the new puppy last summer and the baby girl, an 8 month old black cocker spaniel just like Lupo, arrived at Anmer Hall, the family’s home in Norfolk. They got her before Lupo died hoping that a younger dog would give Lupo some company and give him a little more life and energy.

‘The new puppy is adorable and the whole family are besotted,’ a friend told The Mail on Sunday.

‘They were devastated when Lupo passed away, as any dog owner will understand, but got the new puppy before he died. It was hoped that a younger dog would give Lupo some company and give him a little more life and energy.’

James Middleton, originally bred a litter of puppies from his dog Ella in 2011. He kept one called Luna but gave brother Lupo to Kate in early 2012 when Prince William, then an RAF search-and-rescue pilot, was deployed to the Falklands.

Last summer, James Middleton, who was staying with his parents at their Berkshire home, bred another litter of six puppies with Luna as their mother.

Royal aides have not yet confirmed the name the family have given to their new pet. When the litter was born, James and his fiancee Alizee Thevenet, posted pictures on Instagram of themselves with the six puppies, his other spaniels Ella, Inca, Luna and Zulu plus golden retriever Mabel.

‘I am sad to see you go, and yes I might cry, but it will be with happiness as each of your new homes are bursting with love,’ he wrote.

‘You might be scared at first, that’s ok. Just be yourself and you will never understand how much happiness you will bring to your new families and the people you meet. Make me proud and remember to write.’

He donated the money from the sale of the puppies to the charity Pets As Therapy, which provides therapeutic visits to care homes, hospitals and schools.

The death of nine-year-old Lupo was announced in a rare personal post on social media by the Cambridges in mid-November. ‘Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away.

‘He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much,’ they wrote. The royal couple signed the caption “W & C.”

Within an hour, they had received 300,000 messages from wellwishers.

Over the years, Lupo has been featured in several key family portraits. In Prince George’s first official photos taken shortly after his birth in July 2013, Lupo can be seen sitting next to William. The next year, he featured in a photograph with William, Kate and Prince George at Kensington Palace released before the royal trio went on a tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Kate was often spotted walking him in Kensington Gardens.

Rumour has it, though the royal couple have never confirmed it, that Lupo helped choose Prince George’s name thanks to a game organised by William and Kate. A rumour states that William and Kate wrote down dozens of baby names they liked on scraps of paper and scattered across the floor of their home. Lupo allegedly selected George, and the couple used the name for their firstborn.

The canine companion was so loved by the family that Prince William, who recently spoke out on a new probe into how the BBC secure their infamous Princess Diana interview, referenced the dog in his first official interview shortly after welcoming his son, Prince George in 2013.

Prince William told CNN: “For me Catherine and now little George are my priorities, and Lupo.

“He’s coping alright, as a lot of people know who’ve got dogs and bringing a newborn back, they take a little bit of time to adapt, but he’s been alright so far, he’s been slobbering around the house, so he’s perfectly happy.”

Lupo was first pictured in Anglesey, Wales, on a walk with William and Kate in January 2012, and his name was revealed the following month by Kate during a visit to Rose Hill Primary School in Oxford.

The Duchess, who’d been given a toy dog by a student, said that she would name it after her dog, Lupo. Royal aides later confirmed that Lupo’s name had been chosen simply because William and Kate liked it, but there is speculation that it may be tied to Kate’s grandmother’s family name Lupton: their family crest featured a wolf and wolf in Italian is ‘lupo.’

James Middleton has spoken of how dogs have helped him with his mental health. ‘To think a dog will cure your mental health is misguided, [but] they can be a fantastic companion,’ he once said.
