The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have shared a special family secret on this year’s Mother’s Day. The couple revealed that their three children always make cards for their paternal grandmother, Diana, to remember her and comfort their father.
Three images, showing the cards created by Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and 2 year old Prince Louis were also shared.
In his sweet letter Prince George wrote, “Dear Granny Diana, Happy Happy Mother’s Day. I love you very much and think of you always. Sending lots of love from George.”
Princess Charlotte wrote a touching message. “Dear Granny Diana, I am thinking of you on Mother’s Day, I love you very much. Papa is missing you. Lots of love, Charlotte.”
And a darling drawing from Prince Louis 🙂
In a short message on social media, William and Catherine acknowledged how different Mother’s Day would be for so many people this year, adding ”Many of us will be apart from our loved ones, but looking forward to a time in the not too distant future when we can give our mother a hug again”.
The Duke and Duchess added ”But for those experiencing bereavement, today may be particularly challenging. Each year on Mother’s Day, George, Charlotte and Louis make cards remembering their Granny, Diana, for William. Whatever your circumstances, we are thinking of you this Mother’s Day.”
Celebrating Carole Middleton, an unseen photo of the Duchess as a little girl with her mum was shared. Not sure when the photo was taken, but it looks like Carole may have been pregnant with Pippa. You can really see the strong resemblance to Louis in this photo.
And a mother’s day cake for Catherine made by her children; Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
The Cambridges’ message was one of a number shared by the Royal Family to mark Mothering Sunday in the UK. The official Royal Family account featured a picture of The Queen as a young girl with her mother, Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother.
Clarence House marked the day with a photo of The Prince of Wales with The Queen and The Duchess of Cornwall with her mum, Rosalind Shand.
On her first Mother’s Day since welcoming her son, Princess Eugenie shared a new photo of her baby boy, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, who was born on 9th February. Eugenie has said she is ”excited” about her new role.
The eleventh in line to the throne was snapped lying on a blanket in a garden of daffodils and wrapped up warm in a knitted cardigan with matching bonnet. He was also wearing rabbit slippers which appeared to match the pair snapped by Eugenie for her pregnancy announcement in 2020.
Eugenie wrote ”I’m so excited to be August’s mum and as you can see I’m enjoying my first Mother’s Day.”
The princess also paid tribute to her own mother, Sarah, Duchess of York, sharing a photo of the two together on the day a newborn Eugenie came home from hospital. The princess said she wanted to celebrate her mum, adding ”You’ve taught me so much.”
