The new, stunning era of The Duchess of Cambridge

The royal family had every reason to celebrate during the previous weekend, as Catherine, of Cambridge celebrated her 40th birthday on Sunday, 9th of January. The passage in this new decade of her life was marked with three new gorgeous portraits that Kensington Palace released in honour of her birthday. The photoshoot took place at Kew Gardens last November, by the talented Italian fashion photographer Paolo Roversi. A regular contributor to Vogue, Roversi has been the photographer of numerous advertising campaigns for famous fashion houses, like Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Valentino.

The three new portraits of Catherine are totally different from her previous portraits. This time, instead of seeing the Duchess in nature, dressed casually in sweaters and jeans, Catherine wears stunning dresses from Alexander McQueen, the fashion house that Catherine chose to design her wedding dress, one of the most famous wedding dresses of the century. According to royal sources, these three new portraits of the Duchess of Cambridge show three different aspects of her personality. The first picture, which is in sepia tones and is inspired by former portraits of the women of the royal family, shows Catherine looking away from the camera, wearing a beautiful McQueen dress and showing her impressive engagement ring,a ring that previously belonged to Princess Diana. ln this portrait, the emphasis is given on Catherine’s regal side, depicting a woman who respects  traditions and her royal role and is preparing to be the Future Queen of The United Kingdom.

In the second picture, Catherine looks straight at the camera, something that she rarely does, wearing a red, haute coutu creation of Alexander McQueen that shows her bear shoulder. The formal expression of the previous portrait  is gone- what is obvious in this picture is the growing confidence of the Duchess, something that is shown from her relaxed smile and the playful manner in which she is staring at the camera. This image highlights the modern side of Catherine, a woman who, by entering the new decade of her life, has realised not only her goals for the future, but also her potential.

The third picture, in which Catherine looks straight at the camera again, shows that she is a woman who is living a happy and calm life, as we can see from her sweet, bright smile and the way her eyes are shinig. It is safe to conclude that this is the picture is the one that is probably more significant for Catherine, as it was chosen from William and their three children, who, as the Duchess has previously stated, are the centre of her life.

It is clear that these new three pictures of Catherine mark not only the transition to a new decade but most importantly, the fact that the Duchess of Cambridge is in the most beautiful phase of her life; a phase that he royal duties are in perfect balance with her family life.

Speaking about his collaboration with her, the famous photographer Paolo Roversi noted that:

“Taking the portrait of Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge, was a true honour for me, and a moment o pure joy.

I was moved by her warmth and friendly welcome and enchanted by her shining eyes that reflected the loveliness of her soul and her smile showing the generosity of her heart.

It was a profound and rich experience for me, an unforgettable moment. I
have met a wonderful person, a person who, with her positive energy, can bring hope to the whole world.”

The portraits are going to be included in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery, but before that happens, they are going to be exhibited I three places that hold a special place in Catherine’s heart: Berkshire, where she grew up and has the most beautiful childhood memories, St. Andrews, where she went to study and met the love of her life and Anglesey, where she and William lived happily the first years of their marriage.

Undoubtedly, the transition in this new, golden decade of Catherine’s life was marked with the most glamorous  and impressive way. We can’t help but look forward to seeing what the future holds for the Duchess of Cambridge.
